Hotels: Make a Home Away From Home

Whatever the reason for your journey – a romantic getaway, a luxurious holiday, a business trip, or even for study, the chances are you will be spending a fair bit of time in your hotel.  So, make it your home away from home – somewhere you can enjoy similar amenities to those you have back home – a comfortable place to sleep, the ability to watch TV, make a coffee, have a shower, use their laptops, or whatever else you wish to do.  If you are on holiday, you want to enjoy every part of it, including resting after a hard days exploring.  Likewise, if you are on a business trip, you will want to unwind and relax after a day at work.  So make sure your hotel room makes you feel like you are at home,  and not you are still "at work".

Hotels should provide an atmosphere that makes people feel at home.  The hotel management concentrates on this hospitality for their guests.  The staff at the hotel will put clean sheets on the bed so their guests will sleep well.  They will try to have as many selections on the television so their guests will have something to do in their spare time.  The hotels will have restaurants, a coffee shop and room service so the guests at the hotel will have a great meal.

From Luxury to Basic Service

Some hotels, especially those catering to the richer traveler, and high flying business executives, are extremely luxurious – they offer much more than a simple room to their guests.  You could find them providing spas, saunas, steam rooms, gyms and swimming pools for exclusive use by their guests.  There are personnel on hand to give facials and massages for the comfort of their guests.  These hotels usually have restaurants with the best food available.  These will provide caviar and smoked salmon along with great desserts at the end of the meal.  The staff will provide office services and help getting around the city.

There are other hotels to suit smaller budgets, and these provide more basic services for their guests.  You can still expect a clean, comfortable bed so that you can get a good nights sleep during your stay, and, in most cases you will have a television in your room, and plenty of plugs for your own devices.  You will also likely find that they offer a restaurant and a bar, however the food will be less rich and exotic than in a higher star rated hotel.  Many travelers who could afford more expensive accommodation if they wished still choose to stay in an inexpensive hotel because they feel that they spend so little time in their hotel rooms that they would not have a chance to enjoy the features of a more expensive hotel.  It is your choice as a traveler what facilities you desire from a hotel, and up to you to decide what you need to turn a hotel into a home away from home while you are on your trip.

I stay in a lot of hotels due to work commitments and to tell the truth I don't think I have ever felt at home in a hotel, even when I stayed in one for three months, sure the amenities are there, the staff is friendly, the beds are made, but non of your stuff is with you, its just you and a suitcase.  It is the lack of familiars that make it always a hotel and never a home. It would be interesting to hear other peoples comments.
